Fijians Urged to Cherish New $7 Million Ratu Sukuna Park!

Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica has urged all Fijians to take an active role in the upkeep of the newly redeveloped Ratu Sukuna Park, an investment of $7 million. Speaking at the park’s opening ceremony on Monday evening, he highlighted the need to preserve the park as a source of comfort and pride for future generations.

Kamikamica noted that the park’s redevelopment represents significant transformation, showcasing the country’s progress and dedication to urban renewal. He pointed out the modern features of the park, which now includes a new podium structure, stylish night lighting, contemporary park furniture, a digital screen with surround sound, and an enhanced landscape that effectively combines hardscape with greenery.

He added that the new water feature enhances Ratu Sukuna’s monument, creating a peaceful atmosphere within the park. “This park is more than just a green space. It is a sanctuary within our busy city, providing peace, tranquility, creativity, and a fresh start. It is a place for everyone to take a moment to relax, connect with loved ones, and set new goals,” he said.

Kamikamica emphasized that parks like Ratu Sukuna serve a purpose beyond recreation; they play a crucial role in the health and well-being of communities. “They offer a gathering space for families, a playground for children, and a refuge in nature for individuals. Such spaces enhance the livability of our cities, transforming them into places where people can not only work and reside but also thrive.”

He concluded by encouraging collective efforts to evolve Suva into a more nature-friendly city, sustaining its reputation as one of the leading cities for environmental quality on the Global Cities Index.
