Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Professor Biman Prasad has assured Fijians that their feedback from the 2025-2026 National Budget consultations will be taken into account in the upcoming budget document. During a recent public engagement in Lautoka, he emphasized the government’s dedication to improving service delivery and effectively utilizing national resources.
Professor Prasad highlighted that these consultations are significant as they influence the budget decisions and are not merely formalities. Key proposals from attendees included the construction of a new airstrip to enhance tourism and access to remote areas, as well as appeals for improvements to rural infrastructure, particularly safer roads and walkways for schoolchildren.
Participants expressed concerns about the need for a proposed pedestrian walkway to ensure safety and recreational opportunities for the community. The Minister stated that his ministry would give serious consideration to the proposals made during these sessions as the government aims to balance economic growth with practical support for communities.
This approach aligns with the government’s ongoing commitment to engage with citizens in developing national policies. Previous consultations noted a strong public demand for improvements in healthcare, education, and infrastructure, indicating a broader desire for enhancements that resonate with the needs of the populace.
The commitment to transparency and direct public involvement fosters a hopeful outlook for a collaborative budgeting process, reinforcing the notion that through their voices, Fijians can actively shape the future of their nation’s economic landscape.
As the government hosts more consultations leading up to the budget presentation in Parliament on June 27, the ongoing dialogue and community input play a crucial role in ensuring that the final budget reflects the aspirations and needs of all Fijians.
