Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica has urged all citizens of Fiji to take ownership of the newly redeveloped Ratu Sukuna Park, which had an investment of $7 million. During the park’s opening ceremony on Monday evening, Kamikamica highlighted the significance of keeping the park a cherished and comfortable place for future generations.
He described the redevelopment of the park as a transformation that reflects the nation’s progress and dedication to urban revitalization. The updated park now includes modern amenities such as a new podium structure, designed night lights, contemporary park furniture, a digital screen with surround sound, and an enhanced landscape that integrates hard surfaces with greenery.
Kamikamica pointed out that the new water feature enhances Ratu Sukuna’s monument, offering a peaceful atmosphere within the park. He emphasized that this space is more than just a park; it serves as an oasis in a busy city, providing peace, tranquility, creativity, and a fresh start for its visitors.
He noted that parks like Ratu Sukuna are vital for the health and wellness of communities, providing areas for families to come together, children to play, and individuals to find comfort in nature. These green spaces significantly contribute to the livability of urban areas, ensuring they are environments not only for working and living but for thriving.
Kamikamica called for continued collaboration in transforming Suva into a city that embraces nature, maintaining its reputation as one of the world’s most environmentally friendly cities according to the Global Cities Index.
