The Fijiana XVs team is settling into Edinburgh ahead of their Test match against Scotland, scheduled for Sunday morning (Fiji time) at the Hive Stadium. Fijiana lock Asinate Serevi expressed that the team is adapting well to the conditions and understands the challenges ahead.
“Scotland is definitely cold, but it’s been a fun experience,” she noted. She also mentioned that the long flight was tiring because of the time difference and the weather, but overall, it has been pleasant.
The squad includes five debutants, with three players coming from overseas and two from local clubs. The debutants are Penina Turova, Mary Kanace, Iva Sauira, Una Lalabalavu, and Loraini Senivutu.
Head coach Mosese Rauluni commented that having the three international players training in Fiji has been beneficial, as they have integrated well with the local athletes after several months of preparation.
Several local players who debuted in the Vodafone Fijiana’s tests against Japan last month have retained their places in the squad. These players include Salanieta Nabuli, Tiana Robanakadavu, Unaisi Lalabalavu, Salanieta Kinita, Merewairita Neivosa, and Atelaite Buna.
Additionally, the Fijiana XV will embark on a historic journey as they head to the Netherlands for their first-ever match against the Orange Ladies. This eagerly awaited match is set for Thursday, September 19, at the NRCA Stadium in Amsterdam. The WXV 3 tournament will also feature teams from Colombia, Ireland, Kazakhstan, Spain, and Kenya, with Fiji’s opening game against Colombia scheduled for October 13.
