The Fijiana XV rugby team is currently in Edinburgh, preparing for their Test match against Scotland, scheduled for Sunday morning (Fiji time) at the Hive Stadium. Lock Asinate Serevi shared with SUNsports that the team is adjusting well to the conditions and is focused on their upcoming challenge.
Serevi remarked, “Scotland is definitely cold but it’s been such a fun experience.” She acknowledged the difficulties of the long flight, including the time difference and weather changes, but expressed a positive outlook.
The squad includes five debut players, with three hailing from abroad and two from local clubs. The newcomers are Penina Turova, Mary Kanace, Iva Sauira, Una Lalabalavu, and Loraini Senivutu.
Head coach Mosese Rauluni noted that having the three international players train in Fiji has been beneficial. “They have been in camp for a few months and are integrating well with the local players,” he explained.
Several local players who debuted in last month’s tests against Japan have maintained their positions in the team. These players include Salanieta Nabuli, Tiana Robanakadavu, Unaisi Lalabalavu, Salanieta Kinita, Merewairita Neivosa, and Atelaite Buna.
Following the Scotland match, the Fijiana XV will embark on a significant journey to the Netherlands for their inaugural match against the Orange Ladies. This highly awaited game is set for Thursday, September 19, at the NRCA Stadium in Amsterdam. The WXV 3 tournament will also feature teams from Colombia, Ireland, Kazakhstan, Spain, and Kenya, with Fiji’s first match against Colombia scheduled for October 13.
