The Fijiana XVs team is settling in Edinburgh ahead of their upcoming test match against Scotland, scheduled for Sunday morning (Fiji time) at the Hive Stadium. Fijiana lock Asinate Serevi shared with SUNsports that the players are adjusting well to their surroundings and are focused on the challenges ahead.
“Scotland is certainly cold, but it’s been enjoyable and a fun experience,” she remarked, noting the difficulties of the long flight and the time difference.
This match will see five players making their international debuts, with three of them coming from overseas and two from local clubs. The debutants are Penina Turova, Mary Kanace, Iva Sauira, Una Lalabalavu, and Loraini Senivutu.
Head coach Mosese Rauluni highlighted the advantages of having the three international players train with the squad in Fiji. “They have been in camp for a few months and are integrating well with the local players,” he stated in a prior interview.
Several local players who debuted during the Vodafone Fijiana’s tests against Japan last month have retained their positions in the squad, including Salanieta Nabuli, Tiana Robanakadavu, Unaisi Lalabalavu, Salanieta Kinita, Merewairita Neivosa, and Atelaite Buna.
Following the Scotland match, the Fijiana XV will embark on a significant journey to the Netherlands for their inaugural match against the Orange Ladies. This eagerly awaited encounter is set for Thursday, September 19, at the NRCA Stadium in Amsterdam. The WXV 3 tournament will also feature teams from Colombia, Ireland, Kazakhstan, Spain, and Kenya, with Fiji’s first game slated against Colombia on October 13.
