Fijiana XVs Gear Up for Historic Clash in Edinburgh

The Fijiana XVs rugby team is settling in Edinburgh ahead of their Test match against Scotland, which is scheduled for Sunday morning, Fiji time, at the Hive Stadium. In an interview with SUNsports, Fijiana lock Asinate Serevi noted that the team is adjusting well to the conditions and understands the challenges ahead.

“Scotland is definitely cold, but it’s been a fun experience,” she commented. “The long flight was challenging due to the time difference and weather, but it feels nice to be here.”

The squad features five debutants, including three players from overseas and two from local clubs. The newcomers are Penina Turova, Mary Kanace, Iva Sauira, Una Lalabalavu, and Loraini Senivutu.

Head coach Mosese Rauluni highlighted the importance of integrating the three international players with the local roster. “It’s been beneficial to have them training with us in Fiji,” he shared.

Additionally, several local players who debuted in last month’s matches against Japan have retained their positions in the team, including Salanieta Nabuli, Tiana Robanakadavu, Unaisi Lalabalavu, Salanieta Kinita, Merewairita Neivosa, and Atelaite Buna.

Looking ahead, the Fijiana XV will make history by traveling to the Netherlands for their inaugural match against the Orange Ladies. This match is part of the WXV 3 tournament, taking place on Thursday, September 19, at the NRCA Stadium in Amsterdam. Other teams in the tournament include Colombia, Ireland, Kazakhstan, Spain, and Kenya, with Fiji’s opening game set for October 13 against Colombia.
