Fijiana XVs Gear Up for Epic Showdown Against Samoa

The Vodafone Fijiana XVs aim to extend their winning streak in the WXV3 tournament as they prepare to face Samoa in Dubai on Sunday morning, according to Fiji time. During a Zoom interview on Thursday night, head coach Mosese Rauluni emphasized the importance of not underestimating their Pacific rivals and committed to striving for victory.

“Samoa is a very good side,” cautioned Rauluni, a former captain of the Flying Fijians. He acknowledged their strong forward pack and anticipated they would try to dominate on the field.

Rauluni noted that the team’s morale is high and they have been focused on their objectives since the start of the tournament. He pointed out that Samoa, having lost their first match, would be eager to secure a win.

The Fijiana XVs plan to counter Samoa’s powerful forward pack by including six forwards and two backs on the bench. Rauluni stressed the need for aggression at the breakdowns while adhering to their game plan. He mentioned some injuries within the squad but sees it as a chance for other players to step up.

Despite the challenging heat, the team has been adapting well. Rauluni indicated that they have identified areas for improvement following their first game against Hong Kong, China, which they won convincingly with a score of 38-3.

First-five eight Jennifer Ravutia will join halfback Evivi Senikaviri to lead the team’s attacking efforts against Samoa. Captain Karalaini Naisewa anticipated a physical match and expressed confidence in her team’s ability to fight, having faced Samoa before and learning from that experience.

Rauluni reflected on previous test matches against Scotland and the Netherlands, stating that they are progressing nicely. He acknowledged that costly mistakes in their last encounter with Samoa had led to defeat, which will require the team to be at their best in order to stay competitive.

The match is set to kick off at 2 am and will be broadcast live on Sky Pacific.
