The Vodafone Fijiana XV rugby team secured a strong start in the WXV 3 tournament with a commanding 38-3 victory over Hong Kong China. Head coach Mosese Rauluni expressed that this win would bolster the team’s confidence as they prepare for their next challenge against Samoa.
Fiji dominated the match from the outset, with Ana Korovata scoring a try just two minutes in, followed by Kolora Lomani shortly thereafter. The team’s performance continued to impress, with additional tries scored by Karalaini Naisewa (both 42nd and 71st minutes), Repeka Adi Tove (58th minute), and Sulita Waisega (65th minute). Luisa Tisolo contributed significantly by converting four of the six tries.
While Rauluni applauded his players for their efforts, he emphasized the importance of maintaining focus against Samoa. He acknowledged the physical challenge that Samoa would present, underlining the need for hard work to achieve another victory. “This win against China will give us some confidence as we face Samoa next week,” Rauluni stated. He also noted that the team’s first-half performance was lacking and that they needed to capitalize on opportunities better moving forward.
Fiji’s upcoming match against Samoa is set for 2 AM next Sunday.
