Fijiana XV Dominates in Opener: What’s Next for Samoa Clash?

The Vodafone Fijiana XV team showcased an impressive performance against Hong Kong China, winning decisively 38-3 in their opening match. This victory sets a positive tone as they prepare for their next WXV3 match against Samoa on October 12 in Dubai.

Head coach Mosese Rauluni acknowledged that the team struggled with discipline in the first half, giving away possession through penalties. However, he noted that they improved and capitalized on opportunities in the second half, despite some minor mistakes that added pressure. Rauluni expressed satisfaction with the win, especially following two previous losses against Scotland and the Netherlands. He emphasized the importance of gaining confidence heading into the challenging match against Samoa.

Captain Karalaini Naisewa, who scored twice during the match, praised the team’s performance and indicated that the similar weather conditions in Dubai would be advantageous. She recognized Samoa as a formidable opponent and stressed the need for improved fitness to secure their next victory.

Fiji’s first try came from prop Anasimeci Korovata, who broke through the Hong Kong China defense. Although Luisa Tisolo missed the conversion, Fiji quickly built momentum. Kolora Lomani, known for her speed, added another try before Hong Kong’s Fung Hoi Ching scored a penalty, narrowing the gap to 10-3.

Naisewa extended Fiji’s lead with a try following a maul, successfully converted by Tisolo. Winger Repeka Tove also scored, pushing the score to 24-3 after another successful conversion. Flanker Sulita Waisega added to the tally before Naisewa scored her second try, leading to a final score of 38-3, courtesy of another successful kick from Tisolo.

In a separate sporting event, the national under-18 schoolboys defeated Australia 26-14 in their first match at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka, with their second match scheduled for 3 PM the following day.
