Four exceptional athletes from the ANZ Marama Cup have been selected for the extended squad of the Vodafone Fijiana XV, which will compete in two test matches against Scotland and the Netherlands this month.
The players, all hailing from the Suva Women’s team, are Alisi Galo, Alfreda Fisher, Adi Salaseini Railumu, and Ivamere Nabura. Their inclusion underscores the ANZ Marama Cup’s role as a vital platform for identifying and developing rugby talent in Fiji.
Mike Legge, coach of Fiji Rugby’s High Performance Women’s Program, expressed his enthusiasm regarding the selections. “It’s a very special moment for the HPU Women’s Program to bring these new players into the Fijiana squad for the upcoming tour. We currently have 12 players from our High-Performance group included in that squad,” he stated.
Legge highlighted the importance of local competitions in creating opportunities for players aiming for national and international recognition. “The aspiration for every HPU girl is to wear the Fijiana jersey and join the Fijiana Drua. Their selection demonstrates that a pathway exists for our local players, particularly those in the ANZ Marama Cup,” he concluded.
