Four exceptional athletes from the ANZ Marama Cup have been chosen to join the extended squad of the Vodafone Fijiana XV for upcoming test matches against Scotland and the Netherlands this month. The selected players, hailing from the Suva Women’s team, are Alisi Galo, Alfreda Fisher, Adi Salaseini Railumu, and Ivamere Nabura.
This selection underscores the success of the ANZ Marama Cup, which has established itself as a vital platform for identifying and developing rugby talent in Fiji. Mike Legge, the coach of Fiji Rugby’s High-Performance Women’s Program, expressed his enthusiasm regarding the selections.
“It’s a very special moment for the HPU Women’s Program to include these new players in the Fijiana squad for the upcoming tour. Currently, we have 12 players from our High-Performance group in that squad,” Legge stated.
He highlighted the importance of local competitions in creating pathways for athletes aiming to compete at national and international levels. “The dream of every HPU girl is to wear the Fijiana jersey and join the Fijiana Drua. Their selection demonstrates that opportunities exist for our local players, particularly those participating in the ANZ Marama Cup,” he said.
