Fijiana Sevens Set for Hong Kong: New Coach, Fresh Talents!

Fijiana Sevens Team to Keep Faith with Unchanged Squad for Hong Kong Sevens

Richard Walker, who has recently been appointed as the head coach of the Fijiana sevens rugby team, has announced that the squad will remain unchanged for the upcoming Hong Kong Sevens tournament, which will take place from March 28 to 30. This decision includes veteran players such as Lavena Cavuru and Sesenieli Donu, while Reapi Ulunisau has been released to make room for Michell Seruvatu, who is set to make her debut in Hong Kong.

The Fijiana team will compete in Pool C against formidable opponents including Great Britain, Japan, and France. Walker, with over 15 years of coaching experience, previously guided the USA and Japan women’s rugby sevens teams and has a notable record, including leading the Seattle Seawolves to a Major League Rugby Championship. His appointment comes after Saiasi Fuli’s contract expired in December, and the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) has voiced confidence in Walker’s ability to improve the team’s performance as they prepare for important events like the HSBC SVNS Series and the Olympic qualification pathway.

There is a prevailing sense of optimism within the Fijiana rugby community regarding Walker’s strategic vision and leadership. The commitment to retaining and developing existing talent while enhancing competitiveness in women’s rugby paints a promising picture for the team’s future on the international stage. Under Walker’s guidance, hopes are high that the Fijiana rugby team will not only grow but also serve as an inspiration for the next generation of athletes.
