The Fiji Airways Fijiana sevens team secured seventh place at the Cape Town sevens tournament with an impressive 47-7 victory over Great Britain in the seventh-place playoffs. The Fijiana showcased a dominant performance, scoring a total of seven tries against their opponents.

Reapi Ulunisau shone in the match, scoring a remarkable hat-trick. Other team members who contributed to the scoreboard included Atelaite Ralivanawa, Silika Qalo, Lavena Cavuru, and Sera Bolatini, each contributing one try. Great Britain’s only score came from Nia Fajeyisan.

At halftime, Fiji was leading 19-7 and continued their strong performance in the second half by scoring 28 unanswered points to seal their victory. Earlier in the tournament’s pool stages, the Fijiana experienced a tough start, losing their opening match to the USA 15-7. They bounced back with a commanding 40-0 victory over Great Britain in their subsequent match but faced a setback against New Zealand, losing 31-19 in their final pool game. In the fifth-place playoffs, Fiji fell to Canada with a score of 33-14.

Despite the challenges faced, the seventh-place finish places the Fijiana in a commendable sixth position overall after the first two legs of the series. Looking ahead, the team’s next challenge will be in Singapore from January 31 to February 1, where they will aim to build on their strengths and further improve their standings.
