A new head coach for the Fijiana women’s rugby sevens team will be appointed at the beginning of 2025. This decision follows the announcement by Peter Mazey, chairman of the Fiji Rugby Union interim Trustees, regarding the hiring process for the women’s sevens team in preparation for the 2025 HSBC SVNS Series. Saiasi Fuli’s contract as head coach ends in December.

Mazey stated, “After extensive discussions with Saiasi Fuli, we’ve decided to open up the head coach position.” He added that the job will be advertised in the media soon. The Fiji Rugby Union is actively looking for the best candidate to lead the women’s team in its next phase, with a new coach expected to develop and execute a high-performance strategy for squad selection.

Furthermore, Mazey noted that all contracts for the women’s sevens players expired after the Olympics, with the exceptions of Younis Bese and Heleina Young, who will remain under contract until the end of the year. Fuli expressed his gratitude to Fiji Rugby Union for the opportunity to coach the national women’s team, reflecting on the challenges he faced transitioning from a men’s coaching role.

In related news, Osea Kolinisau will retain his position as head coach of the Fiji men’s sevens rugby team for the next four years. Mazey highlighted Kolinisau’s strong performance over the past few months, indicating that he has significant plans for the team’s future. His primary goal is to secure a gold medal at the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028.
