Fijiana Faces Setback as Samoa Secures Crucial Win

Vodafone Fijiana XV head coach Mosese Rauluni expressed his disappointment following a 17-45 defeat to Manusina Samoa. The loss has dropped Fijiana to third place on the table with five points, while Samoa has moved up to second with seven points. This victory is vital for Samoa as they aim to qualify for next year’s Women’s Rugby World Cup after losing to Fiji in the Oceania Rugby Women’s Championship.

In a post-match interview, Rauluni acknowledged that his team was outplayed throughout the game. He noted that, despite a week of effective training, they failed to perform on the field, missing opportunities and making critical mistakes that impacted their chances. Although Fiji attempted to mount a comeback in the second half, they couldn’t keep pace as Samoa extended their lead, relying on the kicking of Cassie Siataga.

Rauluni stated that the team needs to analyze their errors and improve their game management, an area that has been problematic in previous matches against Scotland and the Netherlands. He emphasized the importance of addressing these issues to remain competitive.

Looking ahead, Fijiana has one week to prepare for their next match against table leaders Spain. Rauluni praised Spain as a strong team and acknowledged the challenge ahead.

In their match, Fijiana saw Luisa Tisolo score two tries, while captain Karalaini Naisewa added another. Only Tisolo successfully converted Naisewa’s try. Samoa, on the other hand, scored six tries, with three conversions and three penalties. Vodafone Fijiana XV previously secured a win against Hong Kong China with a score of 38-3, while Samoa had a draw against the Netherlands. Additionally, Fijiana will have two Test matches against Scotland in England this November.
