Fijiana 7s: Resilience Tested in Hong Kong Showdown Against France

The Fijiana 7s team faced a challenging match in their second game at the HSBC Hong Kong 7s tournament, losing to France by a score of 24-14. In the first half, France capitalized on errors made by the Fijians, scoring three tries, with Alycia Christiaens leading the charge by successfully converting two of them, giving France a commanding early 17-0 lead.

Despite experiencing a tough first half, the Fijiana team showed heart by bouncing back with two tries at the restart, courtesy of Sesenieli Donu and Vika Nakacia. Lavena Cavuru added both conversions, reducing France’s lead to just 17-14. However, Hara Tounkara struck back for France with a try in the closing minutes, sealing the victory.

Earlier in the day, the Fijiana team achieved a positive result by defeating Ireland 26-17 in their opening match. This demonstrates their ability to compete at a high level, despite this latest setback against France.
