In a historic moment for Fijian sports, the Fijiana 7s team presented their itatau for the first time without the attendance of the President. The ceremony took place at the FMF Gymnasium in Suva, where the team sought blessings from Minister of Youth and Sports Jese Saukuru prior to their upcoming campaign in Dubai 7s.

Traditionally, the itatau ceremony has been conducted at the State House, with only one previous instance occurring outside its walls when Team Fiji’s athletics and sports teams made their presentation at Boron House in 2018. During that event, the delegation was welcomed by former President Jioji Konrote.

At the event, Minister Saukuru offered encouraging words to the players, urging them to concentrate on the new season’s prospects rather than past outcomes. He expressed confidence in the team’s ability to represent Fiji with pride in Dubai, assuring them that the entire nation stands behind them. “Remember that the people of Fiji stand firmly behind you,” he emphasized.

The Fijiana team is set to depart for Dubai on Sunday, where they will compete against China, Ireland, and Australia in the group stages. This marks a significant moment for the team as they aim to make their nation proud on an international platform.

This occasion not only highlights the evolving traditions in Fiji’s sports culture but also exemplifies the resilience of the Fijiana team as they prepare to take on formidable opponents. The proud support from the nation will undeniably motivate the players as they embark on this new chapter, showcasing their talent and determination on the global stage.

Summary: The Fijiana 7s team made history by presenting their itatau without the President’s presence for the first time, receiving blessings from the Minister of Youth and Sports before heading to Dubai. The Minister encouraged the team to focus on new opportunities, and they will soon face tough competition in their group.
