In a historic moment for Fiji’s sports, the Fijiana 7s team presented their itatau without the presence of the President for the first time. This significant event took place at the FMF Gymnasium in Suva as the team sought blessings from Minister of Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru, in preparation for their upcoming Dubai 7s campaign.
Traditionally, the itatau has been conducted at the State House, making this occasion particularly notable. It follows only one other instance in 2018, when Team Fiji athletics presented their itatau to former President Jioji Konrote at Boron House.
During the ceremony, Minister Saukuru encouraged the players to focus on the future and the opportunities that lie ahead in the new season, rather than reflecting on previous performances. He expressed faith in the team’s ability to represent Fiji with pride in Dubai, reminding them that the entire nation is behind them.
As the Fijiana team prepares to depart for Dubai on Sunday, they are determined to showcase their talents and bring pride to the country. They are set to compete against China, Ireland, and Australia in the group stages of the tournament.
This landmark event signifies a new era for Fijian sports, highlighting the evolving traditions while fostering a strong sense of community and national pride.
In a broader sense, the Fijiana 7s team’s journey is an inspiring reminder of how sports can unite and uplift a nation, providing hope and anticipation for what lies ahead.
