The Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s team is shifting its focus to recovery as they prepare for the Perth 7s tournament this weekend. Head coach Richard Walker emphasizes the importance of player welfare, ensuring that the squad can physically peak after a series of demanding tournaments.

Walker acknowledged that insights gained from their experience in Cape Town have shaped their preparation in Perth. The team management is prioritizing rest and closely monitoring players’ workloads to optimize their performance. “As a coach, you want to do a lot. But we’ve got to take care of players’ wellness first,” Walker stated, highlighting the team’s revised approach.

Regular management meetings have underscored the need to find the right balance between preparation and recovery, with a shared goal of ensuring players are ready to perform at their best. “Making sure that the bodies get right so that they can peak again the following weekend,” he noted, reinforcing the commitment to wellness.

With recovery as their main focus, the Fijiana squad enters the Perth tournament with hopes of translating strong performances into positive results. They will kick off their campaign against the USA at 2.30 PM on Saturday, followed by a match against New Zealand at 5.58 PM, and will conclude their pool matches against Japan at 8.52 PM.

The team’s proactive measures reflect a promising strategy that highlights the value of health and rest in achieving peak performance, setting a hopeful tone for their upcoming challenges on the field.
