The Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s team is gearing up to compete in the Vancouver 7s starting tomorrow, with a strong emphasis on maintaining focus and unity as they approach this critical tournament. Head coach Richie Walker has highlighted the importance of resilience, especially given the varied results the team has experienced thus far in the 2025/26 HSBC Sevens World Series.

In a recent virtual press conference from Canada, Walker expressed the team’s need to support each other, particularly when faced with challenging outcomes. “The key focus is around that and to support the girls because we know when you get into these stages and we don’t get the outcomes that we’re really looking for, it probably affects the players the most,” he stated. He noted that analyzing film reveals both the positives in their performance and the tenacity of the players.

Despite setbacks, including finishes ranging from seventh to eighth place in previous legs of the tournament, Walker emphasized the necessity of keeping the players’ spirits high. He acknowledged the ongoing pressure they face but reassured the team that improvement could be achieved by focusing on specific key moments that influence their standing in the competition. Walker pointed out, “It’s more about putting more of the positive stuff that they’re really good at, and they’re really close.”

The team’s camaraderie has proven to be a vital element in their quest for redemption. With strong bonds and shared determination, they are prepared to face the challenges ahead in Vancouver, aiming to build on their strengths and elevate their performance. The hope is that this sense of unity will propel them to better results as they embark on this next leg of the series.
