Livia Naidei, a new debutant for the Fijiana 7s team, is filled with excitement and gratitude for the opportunity to represent Fiji at the HSBC SVNS Series opener in Dubai. The halfback from Savusavu, who has been involved in rugby since 2009, expressed her humility and happiness upon receiving the call-up to the national team.
“I am very happy that I have been chosen to represent Fiji,” Naidei stated. She shared her journey in rugby, starting in Savusavu before moving to Suva, where she also played 15s. The move to 7s has been a blessing for her as she continues to pursue her passion for the sport.
Reflecting on her experiences, Naidei acknowledged the challenges she has faced but credited her family for their unwavering support. “Things have been hard, but I thank my family; sometimes it is them who push me to do my best. I thank them for all their support and will do my best to make them and Fiji proud,” she said.
Naidei’s debut marks a significant moment not only for her personal journey but also for the Fijiana 7s team as they prepare to compete on the international stage. Her determination and commitment to succeed are inspiring and represent the spirit of resilience in sports.
This opportunity also showcases the growth of women’s rugby in Fiji, and Naidei’s story can encourage other aspiring athletes to pursue their dreams regardless of the challenges they might face. As she steps onto the field in Dubai, Naidei embodies hope and potential for the future of Fijiana rugby.
