The Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s team concluded their pool stage at the Singapore 7s with a strong performance, securing a 34-12 victory over Japan. Despite facing earlier defeats to Australia and the United States, which dashed their hopes of reaching the Cup semi-finals, the Fijiana side showcased their resilience and skill in this final match.

From the outset, Fiji set a commanding pace, with Alfreda Fisher scoring just a minute into the game. Captain Verenaisi Ditavutu emphasized her leadership by adding two tries during a dominant first half, which concluded with Fiji leading 17-0.

Fiji’s dynamic attacking play continued in the second half, featuring impressive tries from Sesenieli Donu, Sera Bolatini, and Mariana Talatoka, demonstrating their agility and effective ball movement. Japan managed to score through Ria Anoku and Mei Ohtani, but Fiji maintained control, ensuring the outcome remained secure.

Ana Maria Naimasi contributed significantly to the scoreline, successfully converting tries to keep Fiji’s momentum going, while Japan’s late effort saw Michiyo Suda convert one of their tries.

This performance reflects the potential of the Fijiana squad as they look ahead, providing a promising foundation for future competitions in the series. The team’s ability to rebound and showcase their skills even after earlier setbacks is a testament to their determination and talent.
