The Fijiana 7s team is currently positioned 11th in the HSBC Women’s Sevens Series standings after the first leg of the season. Under the guidance of coach Timoci Volavola, the team experienced challenges as nine debutants faced tough competition over the past two weeks. Despite finishing last in the Dubai 7s, the team showed resilience with a more competitive performance in Cape Town, where they secured 10th place.
As it stands, the Fijiana sits with four points, narrowly above Spain, which is in 12th place on the Women’s World Sevens Series points table. Leading the series is New Zealand with 36 points, followed closely by Australia at 34 points and France at 32 points, both of whom have also shown strong performances.
This initial leg may have been tough for the Fijiana team, but the experience gained from competing against some of the best teams in the world will be invaluable for the debutants and the team’s future development. They have the opportunity to build on their progress and regroup for the upcoming events in the series, with the hope of climbing the rankings as the season unfolds.
It’s important to recognize the potential growth that comes from such experiences and the optimism that lies ahead for the Fijiana team.
