Seven young individuals from Fiji, aged 18 to 22, are set to attend the Republic Day Camp in India under the Youth Exchange Program, running from January 16 to 29. This initiative, supported by the High Commission of India, aims to strengthen the ties between the two nations while promoting cultural exchange and empowering youth through diverse global experiences.

The participants, associated with the Fiji National Youth Band, will have the unique opportunity to witness the Republic Day Parade on January 26, a significant event that showcases India’s military prowess and cultural heritage. Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru, expressed gratitude towards the Indian government for facilitating this exchange, highlighting the deep-rooted relationship Fiji shares with India.

During his remarks, Minister Saukuru emphasized, “We have a long history that we treasure deeply,” acknowledging the enriching experiences that such cultural exchanges bring to the youth. He also noted that this trip would enlighten the young participants about how democracy functions globally, as they interact with their Indian peers.

Neerupma Kararha, Charge d’Affaires of the Indian High Commission, mentioned that this marks the fourth batch participating in the program, expressing joy in providing Fijian youth with firsthand experiences of India’s rich culture. The program also includes interactions with youths from 20 different countries, offering a rare chance to broaden their understanding of global cultures.

As part of their itinerary, the Fijian youths are expected to explore various cultural and historical sites within India, including cities such as Agra, where they will visit the iconic Taj Mahal. This journey not only enhances their cultural appreciation but also fosters lasting international friendships.

The spotlight on this program underscores the commitment both countries share to nurturing youth through global diplomacy and cultural exchange. It serves as a commendable reminder of the potential for collaboration and understanding that exists at the international level, cultivating hope for future generations.

In summary, this initiative represents a significant step toward enriching the cultural tapestry of Fiji’s youth, fostering friendships that transcend borders, and celebrating the unique contributions of diverse cultures as they share knowledge and experiences.
