Music education plays a vital role in enhancing various skills, including memory retention, coordination, auditory perception, and emotional intelligence. Recently, sixty-six students from the Valelevu Youth Training Centre celebrated their graduation after successfully completing a Certificate Level 4 in Music Performance.

This accomplishment is part of the centre’s National Youth Band Program, which focuses on teaching musical theory alongside practical performance skills. The Ministry of Youth and Sports has established the centre to offer a second chance for individuals who have left traditional education to pursue their musical passions and talents.

The graduation ceremony was graced by Education Minister Aseri Radrodro, who praised the graduates for their dedication and hard work. He encouraged them to harness their musical abilities and use them to benefit the cultural and economic landscape of Fiji. Mr. Radrodro underlined the Coalition Government’s commitment to providing alternative educational and employment pathways, emphasizing the significance of music in the nation’s development.

During his speech, he also acknowledged the achievements of previous graduates who have found success in prestigious institutions and the entertainment sector. His remarks included an inspiring call for the graduates to chase their aspirations with enthusiasm, stressing the importance of teamwork, discipline, and belief in themselves.

The event also allowed graduates to showcase their musical skills through performances, concluding with the recognition of several students for their exceptional commitment and achievements.

In summary, this graduation not only represents the culmination of hard work and learning for the students but also highlights the important societal role music plays in fostering talent and advancing community growth in Fiji. Moving forward, graduates can look forward to not just personal success, but also contributing to the rich cultural tapestry of their nation.
