Fijian Warriors Rugby Clash in Nadi Doubles as Breast Cancer Fundraiser

The Shop N Save Fijian Warriors have gathered in Nadi in anticipation of their highly awaited match against the Australian Country team this Thursday at King Charles Park. Comprising regional Australian players, including farmers and tradesmen, the visiting team has spent the preceding two weeks in Fiji, engaging in warm-up games against the Army Rugby team and a united Malolo side to refine their skills.

This event is supported by the Australian Government’s PacificAus Sports Program, part of the Vuvale Partnership aimed at enhancing athletic development between Australia and Fiji. Under the guidance of head coach Cohen Politini, who recently led Nadi to the quarter-finals of the 2025 Skipper Cup, the Warriors field a youthful squad mostly composed of players under 23. Among them are promising talents from the Vodafone Vanua Cup, including Sevuloni Tawake from Navosa, Amani Tukana from Taveuni, and Savenaca Durusolo from Kadavu.

The coaching and management team contributes a wealth of experience, with figures like Ilai Derenalagi, Aca Ratuva, Tikiko Nauma, Kausheel Prasad, and Senirusi Seruvakula lending their expertise. Politini highlights that this match is not solely about rugby; it’s also a tribute to the fight against breast cancer, with gate proceeds going to the Fiji Cancer Society.

As he stated, “We will be playing for mothers, aunts, and grandmothers who have battled through breast cancer.” Fans are encouraged to turn out in droves, with the match kicking off at 2 PM at King Charles Park, as the Warriors aim to support this important cause while showcasing their talents on the rugby field. The game will also be broadcast live on FBC TV, giving a chance for fans to witness this meaningful clash.

The intersection of sport and community responsibility reflects a meaningful tradition in Rugby, showcasing how events can bridge awareness for vital health issues alongside the spirit of competition. With dedicated players, passionate fans, and a purpose-driven event, this match promises to leave a lasting impact beyond the scores on the field.
