Young Fijian weightlifter Nehemiah Elder has made history at the 2025 Pacific Mini Games, earning the title of Best Junior Male Athlete following a stunning performance in which he secured three gold medals and shattered nine records in a single day. The 18-year-old showcased his remarkable skills during the Men’s 88kg and 94kg combined weightlifting session held in Palau, facing off against a competitive field of veteran lifters.
Elder’s performance began with a breathtaking snatch lift of 155kg, which not only earned him his first gold medal but also set four significant records: Oceania Youth, Oceania Junior, Oceania Senior, and Pacific Mini Games. His success continued in the clean and jerk, where he lifted 175kg, establishing a new Pacific Mini Games record that secured his second gold medal.
Culminating his historic day, Elder completed a total lift of 330kg, breaking four additional records across all Oceania divisions and achieving an unprecedented clean sweep of gold medals. Meanwhile, Heleina Young of Fiji was honored as the Most Outstanding Female Athlete at the games.
