Waisiki Komainaiqoro, a dedicated student from YAT Sen Secondary School, is gearing up to earn a gold medal for his school in the highly anticipated 2025 Coca-Cola Games. Just recently, he showcased his remarkable athletic abilities by winning a silver medal in the Senior Boys Triple Jump at the Suva Zone Two meet held at HFC Bank Stadium.

The 18-year-old, hailing from Koro Island, faced stiff competition but thrived in the opportunity to demonstrate his talents among other skillful athletes. “The competition was tough, and although our team did not perform as expected, I am grateful that many of us have a chance to take part in this year’s Coca-Cola Games,” Komainaiqoro remarked, displaying sportsmanship and resilience.

With a clear goal in mind, he is determined to clinch the gold medal as he competes in two events this year, all under the guidance of his coach, Albert Miller. “Getting a gold medal for my school is my focus this year, as this is my final year in school,” he stated. Although Komainaiqoro has more experience in long jump, he is excited to take on the challenge of the triple jump.

His journey is not one he takes alone, as he receives substantial support from his family, coach, and teachers, which has significantly contributed to his growth as an athlete. This spirit of determination is echoed by other young talents in Fiji, such as Eroni Tuinaceva from Koro Island. Tuinaceva recently expressed enthusiasm about competing in the Coca-Cola Games after achieving gold at the John Wesley College inter-house competition.

The shared aspirations of these young Fijian athletes exemplify the power of hard work, teamwork, and community support in reaching new heights in sports. Komainaiqoro’s dedication, alongside the encouragement from his peers and mentors, fosters a positive outlook for the future of athletics in Fiji, nurturing a thriving culture of excellence and resilience among the youth.
