Parisha Singh has made history by becoming the first Fijian international student to receive the esteemed NSW International Student Leadership Award. This prestigious accolade, awarded on March 11, 2025, recognizes exceptional leadership and academic success among international students.
Hailing from a family devoted to education, Parisha is the daughter of Pranil Singh, Acting CEO of the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission, and Kaushalia Singh. Her academic journey commenced at Nehru Memorial Primary School in Suva, progressed through Jai Narayan College, and ultimately led her to Sydney, where she is currently pursuing a degree in medicine at the University of New South Wales.
Parisha was nominated for the award by her former school, John Edmondson High School, owing to her exemplary leadership qualities and academic achievements. Competing against over 4,000 international students across New South Wales, she distinguished herself as one of the top six finalists before clinching the award.
Expressing her gratitude, Parisha credited her success to her supportive parents, particularly acknowledging her father as a pivotal source of inspiration. His unwavering belief and encouragement have empowered her to overcome challenges and strive towards her dreams. She also recognized the sacrifices made by her mother, which she considers foundational to her achievements.
Parisha’s inspiring journey is a testament to the power of perseverance and familial support, which resonates with the stories of other distinguished Fijian students like Priyashna Shivangi Sagar, who recently earned the Best Student Award for her Bachelor of Commerce. These narratives demonstrate that unwavering commitment to education can lead to extraordinary accomplishments, irrespective of personal and financial hurdles.
The achievements of Parisha and her fellow students serve as a beacon of hope, illustrating that with dedication and strong family support, individuals can break barriers and reach remarkable heights in their academic and professional lives. Their stories not only inspire fellow students but also emphasize the significant potential that lies within each individual striving for excellence.
