Fijian Stars Shine in Weekend Rugby Showdowns

Fijian rugby players made significant contributions in various competitions across Europe and Japan over the weekend.

In France’s Top 14 league, six Fijians took part in the clash between La Rochelle and Perpignan. Tavite Veredamu shone for Perpignan, scoring his third try of the season and helping his team secure a 21-13 victory against La Rochelle, which is currently in twelfth place. Fellow teammates Alicereti Daugunu and Apisai Naqalevu also featured in the match. On the opposing side, experienced flanker Levani Botia had a notable performance, contributing three turnovers and scoring a try in the 51st minute. Simelui Daunivucu and Suliasi Vunivalu represented La Rochelle, who are in sixth place.

In other European action, Semi Radradra scored his first try of the season for Lyon during their 15-all draw with Racing 92. Radradra’s effort was the only try for his team in the match, while fellow Fijians Vinaya Habosi and Josua Tuisova showcased their talents for Racing, with Tuisova excelling defensively and forcing two turnovers.

In Japan’s League One, centre Seta Tamanivalu delivered an outstanding performance for Toshiba Brave Lupus, scoring two tries in a dominant 61-8 victory over Mitsubishi Dynaboars. Tamanivalu also assisted in setting up a try for Jona Naikabula. Unfortunately for the Dynaboars, lock Epeneri Uluiviti received a red card during the match.

Additionally, Michael Little made a significant impact in another encounter, securing the Man of the Match award against Canon Eagles. In their 36-18 triumph, Little made an impressive 122 meters from nine carries, notching three line breaks, beating five defenders, providing one try assist, and achieving two turnovers. Viliame Takayawa from Canon Eagles also had a commendable outing, scoring two tries to bring his tally to three in the opening two games of the season.

This weekend’s performances demonstrate the growing prominence of Fijian players in international rugby, highlighting their abilities and contributions to their respective teams around the globe.
