Fijian Starlet Shines Bright Ahead of FIFA U20 Clash with Brazil

California State University forward Talei Moodie has caught the attention of the Fiji Young Kulas coaching staff as they prepare for their FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup opener against Brazil.

Joining the squad in Medellin, Colombia on Wednesday, Moodie has quickly become an integral part of the team. Coaches have praised her strong work ethic and adaptability in both offensive and defensive situations.

Assistant Coach Anette Nainima commented on Moodie’s performances during training, stating, “Talei has shown great promise in training. Her ability to read the game and her willingness to step into any role needed are exactly what we need as we prepare for tough competition like Brazil.”

Moodie herself expressed excitement about the experience, stating, “I’m really happy to be here and to have the opportunity to train with such a hardworking and welcoming group. I’m looking forward to contributing to the team in any way I can, especially as we head into this important match against Brazil.”

She also reflected on the importance of representing Fiji, saying, “Representing Fiji means I’m not just representing the country, but also my family—my grandparents, my aunts, my uncles, my mom. Growing up in the United States, my mom made sure I was aware of the Fijian culture so I knew where I came from, and I want to feel more connected to my people.”

Moodie’s inclusion in the team is viewed as a significant advantage as they aim to make an impact on the global stage. The Young Kulas will face Brazil in their first match at 11 a.m.
