Fijian captain Estelle Kainamoli is making waves after leading her team to a silver medal in the 3×3 event at the 2023 Pacific Games. Currently, she is attending the first-ever FIBA 3×3 High-Performance Camp in Gold Coast, Australia, part of FIBA Oceania’s initiative to promote “Women in Basketball.”

The camp, featuring over 70 female athletes from 15 national federations throughout the Pacific, emphasizes skill development on and off the court. Kainamoli expressed her enthusiasm for the experience, noting, “I’ve learned so much, not just about basketball, but also about mental health, nutrition, and emotional well-being.”

Fiji’s delegation at the camp includes coach Sera Vugakoto, players Camari Ravai, Ranadi Koroi, Moana Liebregts, and referee Ella Koroi. The camp’s objective is to enhance the 3×3 discipline, recognized as the fastest-growing urban sport globally.

As a third-year university student, Kainamoli is optimistic about the future of 3×3 basketball in the Pacific, stating, “3×3 is a great sport for us because it’s easier to form teams. It’s fast-paced and unpredictable, which adds excitement.” Looking ahead, Kainamoli and her teammates aim for gold at the upcoming 2025 Mini Games in Palau.
