Fijian captain Estelle Kainamoli is making headlines after guiding her team to a silver medal at the 2023 Pacific Games 3×3 basketball event. Currently, Kainamoli is attending the first-ever FIBA 3×3 High-Performance Camp in Gold Coast, Australia, which is part of FIBA Oceania’s initiative to empower women in basketball.

The camp gathers over 70 female athletes from 15 national federations throughout the Pacific region, emphasizing skill enhancement both on the court and in life. “The camp has been a fantastic experience. I’ve gained so much knowledge, not only about basketball, but also about mental health, nutrition, and emotional well-being,” Kainamoli expressed.

Along with Kainamoli, Fiji’s contingent features coach Sera Vugakoto, as well as players Camari Ravai, Ranadi Koroi, Moana Liebregts, and referee Ella Koroi. The objective of the camp is to elevate the profile of 3×3 basketball, recognized as the fastest-growing urban sport globally.

A third-year university student, Kainamoli is enthusiastic about the future of 3×3 basketball in the Pacific. “3×3 is an excellent sport for us because it facilitates team formation. Its fast pace and unpredictability bring a unique thrill,” she noted.

The next significant challenge for Kainamoli and her teammates will be the 2025 Mini Games in Palau, where they are determined to bring home a gold medal.
