Jone Naqica, the former US Rugby international and Fijian-born player, achieved a remarkable milestone with his induction into the 2025 US Rugby Hall of Fame, an honor he described as both humbling and unexpected. The ceremony took place last Saturday at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington D.C., where Naqica joined eleven other distinguished inductees.
Reflecting on this significant moment, he expressed, “This is truly a tremendous honor and I’m beyond humbled and grateful to the USA Rugby Foundation committee that voted me into the USA Rugby Hall of Fame.” Naqica made his debut for the USA Eagles in 2000 against South Africa, where he scored two tries, solidifying his role as a talented player in rugby.
Naqica’s rugby journey began in his native Fiji, where he played at Rara District School and Ratu Kadavulevu School. He transitioned to rugby sevens and led the USA team as captain from 2006 to 2010, playing over 97 matches and earning a spot as the all-time leading scorer for USA Rugby in sevens. After retiring from the sport in 2014, Naqica chose to devote his time to coaching, aiming to foster growth and development in American rugby.
