Rochdale Hornets, a club in League 1, has announced the signing of Fijian prop Joe Taira for the 2025 season, marking his third tenure with the team. Taira, who began his professional journey with the Hornets in 2016, has played 104 matches for the club so far. He spent two years with Batley Bulldogs before rejoining Rochdale in 2021, where he contributed another 34 appearances.

After a brief period with community club Rochdale Mayfield, Taira has expressed his excitement about returning, signing a one-year deal for the upcoming season. Although he did not earn a cap, he earned international experience representing Fiji in a World Cup warm-up match against England in October 2022.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Taira stated, “I’m buzzing to be back at the place I started my professional career, and I find it fitting that it’s where I will end it.” He acknowledged the team’s previous season, highlighting their potential and expressing his desire to contribute significantly to their progression.

Rochdale Hornets finished last season in 3rd place in League 1 but were eliminated from the playoffs by Hunslet, who eventually secured promotion. Head coach Gary Thornton welcomed Taira back, noting his previous popularity and experience, which he hopes will enhance the team’s performance next year.

This reunion not only brings a seasoned player back to the Hornets but also reinforces their commitment to building a competitive squad for the upcoming season. With Taira’s determination to prove his worth, fans can look forward to an exciting year ahead as the team strives for success.
