Fijian Drua utility back Tuidraki Samusamuvodre is optimistic about the upcoming 2025 Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific season following a challenging year marred by an ankle injury that sidelined him during the last competition.
Last season, Samusamuvodre sustained the injury in the opening match against the eventual champions, the Blues, in Whangarei, Auckland. As a result, he had to rest throughout the tournament. However, he has made a strong recovery, contributing to the Nadi team in both the Skipper Cup competition and the Inkk Mobile Farebrother Challenge after completing his rehabilitation.
Reflecting on his journey, the former Fiji Warriors captain expressed his disappointment over missing the opportunity to showcase his skills, particularly at the No. 12 position, which he had played previously. He acknowledged the support from fans hoping to see him perform.
Samusamuvodre, who is versatile on the field, playing as a wing, center, and primarily as a No. 10, underwent scans during his recovery process that revealed damaged veins, extending the time needed to heal. He chose to forgo surgery, focusing instead on rehabilitation to ensure a more natural recovery.
As he looks forward to rejoining the team, he expresses trust in the coaching staff to position him where he can excel and contribute to the Drua’s success.
Overall, Samusamuvodre’s determination and positive attitude towards his recovery highlight his resilience and commitment to the sport, making fans hopeful for his performance in the upcoming season. His journey serves as an inspiring reminder of athletes’ perseverance in overcoming adversity.
