Fijian distance runner Yeshnil Karan has garnered attention again by breaking the national 5,000m record at the esteemed Box Hill Burn event in Melbourne. Karan achieved a remarkable time of 14 minutes 22.70 seconds, marking a seven-second improvement from his previous record of 14 minutes 29.50 seconds set during the 2024 Australian National Championships in Adelaide.

This latest success represents Karan’s third consecutive time lowering the longstanding Fiji record of 14 minutes 46.40 seconds, which had stood for over thirty years. Facing a tough competition, he secured 12th place in a race won by double Australian Cross Country Champion Seth O’Donnell.

In addition to his recent accomplishment, Karan has shown his talent in various significant events, including setting a national record in the Gold Coast Half Marathon with a time of 67 minutes and 14 seconds. Throughout his journey, he has expressed immense appreciation for his supporters, noting that their encouragement plays a crucial role in motivating him during competitions.

This achievement not only reinforces Karan’s position as one of Fiji’s top long-distance runners but also inspires hope for the future of athletics in the nation. His dedication to his craft sets a commendable example for aspiring athletes in Fiji, demonstrating that hard work and commitment can yield extraordinary results on both national and international stages.
