The 2025 Super Rugby season concluded on a triumphant note for rookies Ponipate Loganimasi and Josivini Naihamu, who were honored with the Rookie of the Year awards in their respective categories. Loganimasi secured the Pepsi Men’s Rookie of the Year title, while Naihamu was presented with the Encore Women’s Rookie of the Year accolade.
Loganimasi established himself as a standout player, leading the Drua men’s squad with six tries this season. He expressed gratitude for the award, attributing it to the team’s collective efforts and acknowledging the support from his teammates and family. “I want to thank God for giving me strength and the talent to come this far. I dedicate this win to my family, especially my parents for their sacrifice,” Loganimasi remarked.
The club commended his remarkable performance during the season, highlighting his journey from winning an Olympic Silver Medal with the Fiji 7s national team to making a successful transition into professional rugby.
Naihamu, at just 19 years old, also expressed her appreciation for being recognized by her coaching staff. “I am really thankful to our coach and the management team for choosing me, although I did not expect this award at all. I want to dedicate this award to my family for their unwavering support,” she shared.
Including their significant achievements, both players have not only presented a bright future for themselves but also served as role models for aspiring athletes in Fiji.
