Chay Fihaki, a rising rugby talent with Fijian roots, has signed a contract with the Crusaders and Canterbury that extends through 2026. The 23-year-old versatile back enjoyed a standout 2024 season, where he was a starter in 12 of the 14 Super Rugby Pacific matches he participated in.
Fihaki was also chosen to represent the Barbarians in a match against Fiji at Twickenham in June, and he is set to play for Canterbury in the 2024 Bunnings Warehouse NPC.
“I’m very pleased to continue my playing career with the Crusaders,” Fihaki expressed. “This club means so much to me and my family; it’s a special place. To play with this group around me, and with great support from coaches and team management, I’m excited to see where we can get to together over the next few seasons.”
Since making his debut for the Crusaders in 2021, Fihaki secured the number 15 jersey at the beginning of the 2024 season, scoring two tries in the opening round against the Chiefs, which included an impressive 30-meter runaway try. His extensive experience at fullback, along with his capabilities on the wing and in the midfield, have established him as a crucial component of the starting backline.
