Fijian Drua’s newly signed player, Vuate Karawalevu, is expressing his enthusiasm about joining the top rugby club in the nation. At just 23 years old and hailing from Dravuwalu Village in Kadavu, Karawalevu made the move to Drua after his time with the Waratahs. He feels that his transition to this franchise was guided by divine intervention.
Reflecting on his journey, Karawalevu noted, “I started with the Waratahs, and was just not eligible to be selected, but God always sees people that are working hard.” He emphasized that the decision to join Drua was made with his family’s support, who believed it would be beneficial for him to stay closer to home. “It is exciting for me and the family,” he added.
Karawalevu mentioned that he feels welcomed and at home within the Drua squad. He has encountered familiar faces, having previously camped with several players during the Flying Fijians tour and having played alongside many during their schoolboy days.
In terms of playing style, Karawalevu is versatile and ready to contribute in the back three of the field. While he has a preference for the fullback position, he is also open to playing wing, demonstrating his commitment to the team’s success.
This development is promising for the Fijian Drua as they enhance their squad with homegrown talent, fostering a sense of community and togetherness. With players like Karawalevu, who carry both passion and a commitment to their roots, the team is well-positioned for future success. It is heartening to see young athletes returning to contribute to their local clubs, strengthening the ties between players and their communities.
