Vuate Karawalevu, the latest addition to the Fijian Drua rugby team, is thrilled about his new chapter with the club. The 23-year-old, hailing from Dravuwalu Village in Kadavu, previously played for the Waratahs. He believes his transition to the Drua is in line with a higher purpose.
“I started with the Waratahs but wasn’t selected. However, I believe that hard work doesn’t go unnoticed,” Karawalevu shared. He emphasized that joining the Drua was a timely decision influenced by familial support. “I asked my parents, and they encouraged me to come back home and join the Drua, making this an exciting opportunity for both me and my family.”
Karawalevu has quickly found his place within the team, connecting well with his new teammates. “It has been great because many of the players were part of the Flying Fijians tour with me, and I’ve played alongside several of them since high school with the Fiji Schoolboys,” he noted.
In terms of gameplay, he is versatile and comfortable playing in various positions within the back three. “I enjoy playing fullback, but I am also open to playing wing. I’ll take on whatever comes my way,” he stated.
This new chapter in Karawalevu’s career not only highlights his dedication but also showcases the warm camaraderie that exists within the Fijian rugby community. With players like him returning home to represent their country, the future of Fijian rugby looks promising.
This positive news reflects the growing trend of athletes choosing to play for their home clubs, strengthening local establishments and fostering connections within their communities.
