Vuate Karawalevu, the latest addition to the Fijian Drua rugby team, shares his excitement about joining one of the nation’s top rugby clubs. The 23-year-old, hailing from Dravuwalu Village in Kadavu, transitioned to the Drua after a stint with the Waratahs. He believes that a higher power played a role in his journey.
Reflecting on his path, Karawalevu expressed gratitude and a sense of divine timing, stating, “I started with the Waratahs and was just not eligible to be selected, but God always sees people that are working hard.” He consulted with his parents, who supported the idea of him returning home to play for the Drua, which adds a personal and familial aspect to his career.
Since joining the team, Karawalevu has felt welcomed and at ease, as many of his teammates are familiar faces from past tours and school competitions. “It has been good; most of the boys I camped with during the Flying Fijians tour, and many of the boys we played together back in high school and the Fiji Schoolboys,” he noted.
Position-wise, Karawalevu is adaptable, expressing his preference for the fullback position but showing readiness to play on the wing as needed. “I love playing fullback, but I don’t mind playing wing; I’ll take whatever comes,” he said.
Karawalevu’s journey highlights not only his personal growth but also the importance of community and connections in sports. His enthusiasm for the game and commitment to his team promise an exciting chapter ahead for both himself and the Fijian Drua.
In summary, Karawalevu’s move to the Drua symbolizes both a return to his roots and a hopeful new beginning in his rugby career, suggesting that with determination and support, dreams can indeed come true.
