Fijian Rugby Star Faces Suspension Amid Domestic Violence Allegations

Fijian winger Vinaya Habosi, who was arrested on allegations of domestic violence, has not been charged, but reports from France indicate that he could face suspension from his club, Racing 92.

Habosi was released after his partner chose not to file a complaint against him. The incident reportedly stemmed from an argument during which the 24-year-old pushed his partner, who was holding their baby at the time. Witnesses have claimed that after his wife fell to the ground, Habosi struck her in the back of the head.

Fortunately, there were no injuries to the baby, and Habosi’s partner declined assistance from emergency services and showed no visible injuries. It has been noted that Habosi appeared to be intoxicated during the altercation and contended that he did not push or hit his wife.

In a statement, Racing 92 acknowledged the situation involving Habosi and expressed that they would refrain from further commentary until they receive more information from the relevant authorities.

If he is found guilty of the allegations, it is expected that his contract with the club, led by coach Stuart Lancaster, would be terminated. Habosi made his international debut for Fiji in 2022 and participated in the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France. He joined Racing 92 in 2023 after his previous contract with Fijian Drua was cut short following a serious breach of conduct related to another domestic abuse incident.
