Electrifying Fijian rugby star Joji Nasova is gearing up to make his mark in the Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific as he has signed a two-year contract with the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua starting in 2026. At just 24 years old, Nasova has already made a tremendous impact in the sport, coming off an impressive season where he finished as a joint-top try scorer in the 2025 HSBC SVNS Series with an outstanding 26 tries, a feat that also earned him a place in the Men’s Dream Team.
Nasova’s recent successes include a silver medal at the Paris Olympics and a memorable performance at the 2023 Pacific Games in Honiara, where he was instrumental in securing gold for Fiji. His development as a player can be traced back to his early days with the Dominion Brothers in domestic 7s tournaments, where he established himself as a talent to watch.
“With this move to the Drua, I’m really excited about this next step in my career,” Nasova expressed. “I hope to make the most of this opportunity.” Drua head coach Glen Jackson echoed this enthusiasm, highlighting Nasova’s skill set and previous accomplishments in sevens rugby as a perfect fit for the transition to the 15-a-side format. He emphasized the positive influence of the partnership with Osea Kolinisau and the Fiji 7s program, which continually nurtures world-class athletes.
This move reflects a broader trend of successful sevens players transitioning to the 15s game, with Nasova following the path of fellow player Ponipate Loganimasi, who has also excelled in the Drua. As Nasova prepares for this exciting new chapter, his story stands as an inspiration not just for aspiring rugby players in Fiji but also for young athletes everywhere, demonstrating how passion and dedication can lead to remarkable opportunities.
The anticipation surrounding Nasova’s move to the Drua and his journey in the rugby world instills a sense of hope for the future of Fijian rugby, as the sport continues to shine on the international stage with emerging talents.
