Jone Raibevu, who gained attention for his impressive 57-meter penalty kick in the Fiji Secondary School Rugby Eastern Zone final, is thrilled to embark on his journey with the Fijian Drua Academy. The 17-year-old is one of 28 young athletes selected to undergo specialized skills training provided by Drua coaches and high-performance staff over the next three years.
A year 12 student at Queen Victoria School, Raibevu is ecstatic about living his dream of playing rugby at a higher level. He expressed, “I never thought in my wildest dreams that I would come this far in my passion for rugby; the place I would only see on television is now becoming my reality.”
Raibevu is determined to make the most of the opportunities provided by the Drua Academy and is committed to absorbing all the knowledge imparted by the coaching staff. He shared his aspirations, stating, “When I heard all the advice from the Drua coaches and management, I took it to heart to achieve my goals of being part of the Fijian Drua team and donning the Flying Fijians jersey one day.”
In a motivational message for aspiring rugby players, Raibevu encourages his peers participating in the secondary school rugby competition to set clear goals and work diligently towards them. The selection process for the inaugural group of academy players involved candidates from fifteen local secondary schools across the country.
