Jone Raibevu, known for his impressive 57-meter penalty kick during the Fiji Secondary School Rugby Eastern Zone final, is filled with enthusiasm as he embarks on a new chapter with the Fijian Drua Academy.
At just 17 years old, Raibevu is among 28 players selected for a specialized three-year training program led by Drua coaches and high-performance staff. As a Year 12 student at Queen Victoria School, he is ecstatic to be progressing towards his rugby dreams.
“I never thought in my wildest dreams that I would come this far in my passion for rugby; it’s an incredible experience that I once thought I could only witness on television,” expressed Raibevu, reflecting on his journey and the opportunity that lies ahead.
He is determined to make the most of this opportunity and learn from the guidance offered by the Drua management and coaching teams. “Listening to the advice from the Drua coaches is crucial for me to reach my goals. I aspire to be part of the Fijian Drua team and to wear the Flying Fijians jersey one day. I will work hard and adhere to the advice given to me,” he added.
Raibevu also encourages aspiring rugby players in the country to set their objectives and pursue them diligently, highlighting the importance of focused ambition in achieving one’s goals. The selection of the first cohort of academy players came from fifteen local secondary schools across Fiji.
This exciting opportunity not only represents a significant milestone for Raibevu but also serves as inspiration for young athletes throughout the nation. The future for rugby in Fiji looks promising, with a new generation of talent ready to take the field.
