Waste Recyclers Fiji Ltd (WRFL) has been named a finalist for the 2024 Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) Awards, scheduled for November 2024 in Sydney. The company is in the running for the Improved Recycling System Award, highlighting its commitment to sustainability and recycling.
WRFL will be competing against major industry players, including AB Food & Beverages Australia Pty Limited, Circular Plastics Australia (PET), Asahi Beverages, Coca-Cola Europacific Partners, and Henkel Australia Pty Ltd. Amitesh Deo, the Founder of the Pacific Recycling Foundation and Director of WRFL, remarked on the significance of being the only Fijian company nominated as a finalist, emphasizing the importance of WRFL’s sustainability initiatives over the last thirty years.
Mr. Deo expressed pride in being recognized alongside some of Australia’s largest and most innovative firms. He stated, “This nomination is not just a win for WRFL but for all of Fiji. We are proud to represent our nation on such a prestigious platform, showcasing the hard work and dedication we have invested in sustainability over the years.”
As a finalist, WRFL urged all Fijians to support the company as it showcases Fiji’s sustainability efforts internationally. The director highlighted that this recognition reflects the nation’s advancements in recycling and waste management, proving that small island countries can significantly impact global sustainability initiatives.
The 2024 APCO Annual Awards will celebrate leaders and innovators in the packaging, waste, and recycling sectors, honoring those who are pioneering sustainable packaging practices.
