Fijian Recycler Shines as Finalist in Prestigious APCO Awards

Waste Recyclers Fiji Ltd (WRFL) has been named a finalist for the esteemed 2024 Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) Awards, which will be held in Sydney in November 2024. The company has earned a nomination for the Improved Recycling System Award, highlighting its commitment to sustainability and recycling practices.

WRFL will be in competition with major industry players such as AB Food & Beverages Australia Pty Limited, Circular Plastics Australia (PET)—a collaboration between Pact Group and Cleanaway Waste Management, Asahi Beverages, Coca-Cola Europacific Partners, and Henkel Australia Pty Ltd.

Amitesh Deo, the Founder of Pacific Recycling Foundation and Director of WRFL, expressed that being the sole Fijian company acknowledged as a finalist is a remarkable accomplishment, reflecting the significant impact of WRFL’s sustainability efforts over the past thirty years.

“It is an incredible honour for us to be recognised alongside some of the largest and most innovative companies in Australia,” Mr. Deo stated. He emphasized that this nomination represents a victory not just for WRFL, but for all of Fiji, and is a source of pride in representing the nation on such a significant platform, highlighting the hard work dedicated to sustainability initiatives.

As a finalist, WRFL urged all Fijians to support the company’s representation of Fiji’s sustainability achievements at a global level. “This is a testament to the progress we have made in recycling and waste management. It shows that small island nations can have a substantial impact in the field of sustainability,” he remarked.

The 2024 APCO Annual Awards will be a significant gathering, uniting innovators and leaders from the packaging, waste, and recycling sectors to celebrate those at the forefront of sustainable packaging practices.
