Saracens, one of the top clubs in the English Premiership, has announced the signing of Vilikesa Nairau, a promising Fijian prop, from Championship team Coventry. The 22-year-old has previously played for Fiji at the under-20 level and will be joining Saracens on an undisclosed contract, which represents his first professional deal in rugby.
Nairau, who began his career with the Suva rugby club in Fiji, made the leap to England to play for Coventry last year. Expressing his excitement about the move, Nairau thanked the coaches and management for the opportunity and emphasized his eagerness to contribute alongside his new teammates.
“It’s my first professional rugby contract and I’m ready to stand alongside the boys and fight along with them,” Nairau stated, highlighting his gratitude and commitment.
Currently, Saracens are positioned fifth in the Premiership and are tied on points with the fourth-placed Sale Sharks. The inclusion of Nairau is expected to strengthen the team’s forward pack as they look to improve their standings in the league with just two games remaining in the regular season. His addition reflects the growing trend of Fijian players making significant impacts in professional rugby, as seen with other recent signings like Waisea Nayacalevu, who joined the Ospreys from Sale Sharks.
The influx of talent from Fiji not only showcases the remarkable skill and resilience of these athletes but also enriches the competitive environment of rugby in Europe, offering an optimistic outlook for the future of the sport. Fans can look forward to Nairau’s contributions and the positive impact he may bring to Saracens as they approach the next season.
